Dear DMS Parents:

I would like to express my great appreciation of you and your students.  We have had a tremendous year.  Our students are truly the best and brightest around which is a reflection of you as parents.

Our goal is for every student to receive the best education in the nation.  The first step to accomplishing this goal is to have all of our students at school every day.  We know that is near impossible but we can get very close.  We understand there are days students cannot come to school due to a variety of circumstances.  What we ask of you as parents is to call and let us know when and why students are absent.  We can excuse those absences very quickly and efficiently.

When parents don’t call in students receive an unexcused absence.  By law we are obligated to report these absences to you.  When your students compile 4 or more unexcused absences we are obligated to report to you as well as the District Attorney.  Here is what happens when students hit 4 unexcused absences and above:

Student has unexcused absences 4 days or parts of days within a 4 week period:  School contacts Parent and sends affidavit to the District Attorney.

Student is absent 10 days or parts of days within a semester:  School contacts Parent and send affidavit to the District Attorney.

We pride ourselves in the office on making contact with parents regarding absences in a quick and timely manner.  We ask that you continue to cooperate with our attendance clerk regarding school attendance issues.  We want your students here at DMS and look forward to working with you to ensure your student is successful.

Thank you for being part of our success story at DMS!
